(Important) If you use iPhone or iPad device, please pay attention when you update iOS5.1 (Loop issue)!

Dear all.

On March 8, 2012 (Japanese time), Apple co. released new iOS 5.1 for iPhone/iPhone4S and iPad/iPad2.
However, the devices of many persons including me in the world are occurring the deadly trouble after update to iOS5.1.

In this case, the device won’t be able to do anything including the telephone even if you try to restore from the backup data.

Therefore, the new features are very nice, but I strongly recommend to stop this update. And then, you had better wait until next release version.  (April, 5, 2012)

Maybe, it seems to be able to avoid this issue by the setting up the following settings.

  • Enable “Siri”, Disable “Restrictions”, and Disable “Passcord Lock”.
  • Of course, you should prepare the restriction methods as much as possible before you update iOS.
     – Enable “Find iPhone” (Find iPod) in Locations of Settings.
     – Setting up “FaceTime” to communicate with  your friend.

I want to say, “At least, you wait the update for a week after iOS is released.”.

Recovery method using Emergency call

I could recover my iPhone 4S by using the following method. The condition is that your device is using “Passcord Lock”. If you did not set up it and your device was enabling “Find iPhone” function in the iCloud, you still  have the opportunity for recovery. Please access to https://www.icloud.com/#find and try  “Remote Lock” to your device. By this operation, your device will be “Passcode Lock”.

  1. When you unlock the slide, “Passcord Lock” will be displayed on your device.
  2. Tap  “Emergency call”.
  3. Tap  “left arrow” button.
  4. Repeat No.2 and 3 at several times (About 10 or 20 times).  If  “Siri” setting is displayed, I think that the trouble will be resolved.
      * If the operation could not succeed , you will loop it and try No.1 again.
  5. I selected “disable Siri”. And then, tap “Start iPhone”.
  6. If  “Home” is displayed, I strongly recommend to back up your device in  iTunes.
      * You connect your device to your PC and select “Backup”  from context menu (right click in the device name of iTunes)
  7. Finally, please enable “Siri”, disable “Restrictions” in General, and disable “Passcord Lock”.
      * At least, you had better use the above settings until  the trouble is fixed.
