Dear all,
Gmail specifications will change starting in January 2026.
- Gmail will no longer support checking email from third-party accounts (a non-Gmail address) using POP.
- The “Check email from other accounts” option will no longer be available in the desktop version of Gmail.
Our Center’s email address (@cseas.kyoto-u.ac.jp), Kyoto University email addresses (@kyoto-u.ac.jp), and the free version of Gmail (@gmail.com) are Gmail addresses, so they will not be affected if you use them via https://gmail.com from email software, apps, or browsers. However, if you use an email address other than Gmail on these Gmail services, you may be affected.

Scope of impact
1. If you receive emails from a non-Gmail address on the web version of Gmail (https://gmail.com)
There is no alternative, and it will no longer be available.
*Emails received up until that point will continue to be available on Gmail.
From January 2026 onwards, the following measures will be required:
- Set up automatic forwarding from a non-Gmail email address to Gmail
- Use a webmail service provided by a non-Gmail email address
- Use email software or apps
2. If you receive email via POP in the Gmail app
Since POP will no longer be available, if your email address supports IMAP, you will need to reconfigure it to receive emails via IMAP.
