Dear the division members in the Center. As the Office has already informed  several times, the Center has managed the CSEAS security software license by doing “PC Scan” every year. In this fiscal year, its implementation was carried out during June, 2012. However, there are unscanned PCs. About the unscanned PCs, the following measure will be taken. Therefore, PLEASE carry out “PC Scan” if you have the unscanned PC. Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.257 Released

Users New Adobe Flash Player was released (version 11.3). To update to the latest version of this Player is very important because it is used  for browsing web sites without a user noticing. In other words, the Player has been used in many web sites. During the following period, the users who used an e-mail software could not send an e-mail message (There was no problem about the sending from Gmail) due to my operation miss.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.  [Date]: June 17, 2012   09:36 — June 19, 2012  10:17 [Influence]: When the users tried to send the e-mail using  the e-mail software,  it could not  be sent with “TLS Authorization Error” message (The sending from Gmail was no problem). (KUINS: Restored) Unstable condition to access to external web sites.

According to the notice (in Japanese) of the network center of Kyoto University (KUINS), it is hard to access to web sites except the local web sites in Kyoto University due to the trouble of the web proxy. [Date]: June 3, 2012  5:30 – 11:00 [Reason]: Trouble of the common web proxy server of Kyoto University. How to clean up the unsafe software called “Babylon”

Users. I cleaned up “Babylon” software because there was the request for deletion. As a result of the operation, I felt that it is difficult to prevent from it.  Therefore, I would like to explain how to clean up it and do the tentative preventive measures. Please confirm the forwarding setting of your KU-mail.

Users. According to the notice from the administrative office, by the information security policy of Kyoto University, all faculties of Kyoto University are required the  arrangement of the environment for reading the KU-mail.  I had ever  informed at the staff metting, please confirm again.  If you have the SPS-ID (Common ID of Kyoto University), I strongly recommend that you forward your KU-mail to the CSEAS E-mail address. * SPS-ID is used by the Kyoto University wireless service, and so on. (Attention) Password leak issue of Twitter account

Users. According to the news, On May 7, 2012, the passwords of the twitter account above 55,000 were leaked. About this case, it seems that we don’t need to worry because general users are not influenced. However, we should consider about our password management because if the same password is used for locking the private information, such as an e-mail, an online shopping, or an online bank, its damage will be ruinous.  I think that an unique password should be used for locking the private information. (Notice) PLEASE carry out the countermeasure for Mac virus called “Flashback” in fashion.

Macintosh Users. On April 13, 2012, Apple co. provided the special removal tool through “Software Update”. If you haven’t recently updated your computer with this tool then it is recommended that you do so. Software Update is in the Apple menu. If you are using  Macintosh machine of too old version (MacOSX 10.4 or before),  please consider to upgrade OS or to buy new machine. Because Apple co. don’t support too old version and there are many security vulnerabilities. And then, CSEAS security software doesn’t support MacOSX 10.3 or before.
